Earlier this month, AEpiA President Prof Susan Clark visited our friends at the Epigenetics User Group (EUG) Hub at the University of Otago, in Dunedin, New Zealand.

Sue was given a warm welcome by Dr Aniruddha Chatterjee, who leads the EUG and also represents New Zealand on the AEpiA committee.

At a special meeting of the EUG, Sue gave a talk on Best Practices for validating DNA methylation biomarkers from large scale studies.

One of the highlights for Sue was chatting with postgraduate students over nibbles and drinks. She shared insights from her own career, encouraging them to “think outside the box”.

“I really enjoy talking to young researchers, especially groups of gifted individuals like the EUG. Their passion for epigenetics is inspiring.

“I’m excited for the future of epigenetics research in New Zealand and Australia,” Sue reported.

Aniruddha founded the EUG in March 2017, aiming to collectively address critical and technical epigenetics problems, share resources, provide constructive peer review and academic consultancy, and improve collaborations in epigenetics.

The group meets monthly and is actively expanding its membership.
