Uniting epigenetics researchers across Australasia

Exciting news! It’s official!

After 15 years of supporting our research community, the Australasian Epigenetics Alliance has officially become incorporated.

Why has AEpiA become incorporated?
The size of the AEpiA community has doubled to more than 800 people within the last 4 years!
The introduction of new activities (e.g. online seminars and ECR initiatives) has brought many new researchers to the AEpiA family, and we are delighted to see our community grow and thrive amid challenging times.
To ensure the continued strength of our growing community, the AEpiA committee started discussing incorporation in 2022. After careful consideration, we voted to become an incorporated society in November 2022 and announced our incorporation in July 2023.

The benefits of becoming an incorporated society include:

  • Easier use of AEpiA funds to support our members.

  • More direct support for researchers focused on epigenetics.

  • Better legal protection over AEpiA events.

  • Additional administrative support (via ASN Events).

What does this mean for me?
As an incorporated society, AEpiA will be able to offer more support to epigenetics researchers in our region. For example, we hope to offer more research prizes like the Emma Whitelaw Publication Award, and more training workshops for ECRs.
While our online seminars and conferences will remain accessible to all, AEpiAmembers will enjoy several additional benefits:

  • Discounts on conference registration.

  • Eligibility for AEpiA awards and prizes.

  • Optional listing of member contact details on the AEpiA website.

  • Promotion of research publications, job/scholarship opportunities, etc through internal and/or public AEpiA communications.

  • Eligibility for AEpiA committee membership and leadership opportunities.

  • Ability to nominate student members.

With the increased flexibility offered by incorporation, we are excited to explore new opportunities to support our members. Please forward any suggestions or feedback for our consideration to the AEpiA Secretariat aepia@asnevents.net.au.
